Study Smart: 4 Tips on How to Help Your Child Study Effectively
Children are naturally curious and tend to ask questions. You might be walking at the park and they'll suddenly ask "Why is the sky blue?" or "Why do chickens have eggs and we don't?" We might find their questions difficult to explain at times, but we still try to give them a satisfying answer.
It's also their natural curiosity that their minds wander during lessons. Well, we can't really deny it as we might've also done the same when we were young! This can lead them to forget what their teacher taught them, making homework and tests enemies.

So, how can we encourage learning at home? Here are four tips you can use for smart studying!
Take regular, short breaks
If adults need breaks from their work, so do children. When kids enter school, they spend the majority of their time studying. It's no wonder they get tired and distracted while doing homework.
By taking short breaks regularly, we allow our children to breathe and refresh their brains. This will help them absorb more knowledge and insight when they resume.
Breaks can be stretching or grabbing a snack, anything that will take their minds off of what they're studying. Just make sure to set a time to resume, so that they won't get too distracted.
Designate a study area
It's more effective to study when your child has a dedicated space for it. It helps them focus more and allows them to easily reach the things they'll need.
You can designate a study space in their room. If you've a smaller space, maximise it by using furniture such as cabin beds. The cabin beds at Cuckooland have enough space underneath to become their study area. Plus, you can have your child decorate it with whatever they like which can become a bonding time for you and your child.
Use reading alternatives
For children, reading alone can get tedious. This can make them feel tired and unable to focus on what they're studying.
You can try alternatives to reading to create an interactive learning environment. Use flashcards, pictures and diagrams, or even audiobooks and videos to catch their attention. This way, they can have fun even during study time!
Praise them!
Adults become motivated when they are praised. Don't think it's not the same with kids and studying!
In fact, children who're praised after solving a difficult problem or spelling a tricky word correctly are encouraged to do well in their next task. This allows them to put in more effort to accomplish challenges.
However, remember to still give them praise even if they got a question incorrect. After all, recognizing their efforts is better than only giving a thumbs up after a job well done!
Learning isn't limited to the four corners of the classroom. Your child can also learn from their experiences at home or outdoors. As parents, you can foster a healthy learning environment for them through your guidance and support. Preparing your child to absorb lessons at school effectively will help them not only take on tests with flying marks, but also face challenges as they go through with life!
