Restaurant Review: Burgo Bar in Ilford, London + Giveaway
Located in Ilford (London), Burgo has a very extensive menu and mainly serves burgers and grilled items. Paid parking is available just outside the restaurant and can be paid both by cash or via mobile. Parking is free for the first 30 mins and is charged £1.50 per hour later onward. Immediately after settling down, we were handed over the menu cards, but it took us a while to decide what to order as lots of options are available at Burgo - from burgers and steaks, grill items, milkshakes, mocktails, desserts and ice cream, making it a fabulous place for any food lover to tantalise their taste buds.
Finally after scrutinising the menu for a good few minutes, my husband and I decided to start with Chicken Wings, Mozzarella Dippers (£3.75) and Lamb Chops (4 for £6). We tried three different flavours of chargrilled chicken wings - BBQ, Chilli and Peri Peri. The wings have been given different names by Burgo on it's menu - the Sticky-Licky Wings were cooked in BBQ sauce while the Flying High Wings were cooked in a special spicy sauce. In my opinion, they were perfectly spiced as they weren’t too spicy nor were they bland.
Served with Burgo's special chilli sauce, the second starter the mozzarella dippers had been deep fried and were served hot - just they way they should be! The succulent lamb chops, served in a sizzling hot grill tray were absolutely fantastic! They had been cooked and spiced very well, and I definitely cannot hesitate in saying that they should be a 'must-try!'
Moving on to the mains, I first decided to order a drink for myself to quench my thirst and to take a break from the meaty feast by cleaning the palette, so ordered a Strawberry Heaven (£3.95) and a Pina Colada (£3.95). Served in a mason jar with fresh mint leaves and lime, the mocktail was chilled and was very refreshing - I would really recommend this mocktail served at Burgo. Although I was spoilt for choice at Burgo since the restaurant has lots of other options including milkshakes, but I had to leave some room for the mains, so I decided not to try the milkshakes this time. However, they did look tempting and something I doubt I’ll he able to resist on my next visit to the restaurant.
For the mains, I ordered a Lamb Skewer (£9.95) for myself and a burger for the husband as well as Masala Fish for us to try and share. The lamb skewer I really loved the flavour of the grilled lamb cubes, they were cooked very well and the marinade made the meat cubes juicy and tender.
The Philly Steak burger (£9.95) was served with chips and the seasoning on it further enhanced it's taste. The filling in the burger was very generous, making it taste deletable. Burgo uses 100% prime British beef that comes from grass fed cows in Yorkshire & Ireland. The restaurant uses the best cuts of meat to ensure perfection when hand crafting the burgers. Also, the freshly baked brioche bun adds to the sapidity of the meal.
Masasla Fish (£5.99) is a new addition to the menu and the restaurant uses fresh Icelandic Cod which is then battered and marinated with different spices and herbs, following their secret homemade recipe to get the right taste. The platter came with fish, chips as a side as well as some fresh salad and a creamy sauce, and was very appetising!
I was quite full and had no room for anything else after the mains, so decided not to order any desserts even though I was really tempted to try the waffles. However, BabyN' was very eager and had actually been waiting impatiently for the last course of the meal, so we decided to get a scoop of bubblegum ice cream for him to enjoy!
I really appreciate the fact that Burgo has lots of options to suit every diner's needs, and it's a child friendly establishment. I wasn't able to try lots of stuff I wanted to try, but there' always a tomorrow and I'm quite excited for my second visit to Burgo. Also, I felt the prices are very reasonable so it's not just the right place to dine with family or friends but it can also be a perfect spot for celebrating a loved ones birthday or any special occasion. Burgo also has some great lunch deals, available for £5 - the food is not just tasty, but it isn't even heavy on the pocket.
