BabyN's 1st Swimming Experience + Baby Swimming Shop Review
BabyN' has turned 2 and we were really looking forward to introduce him to swimming. Hey, have you read about his birthday celebration yet? You can read it, here. So in December, when we were in Cardiff hotel, he wasn't very keen on going inside the pool and kept clinging to his mum all the time. I went in the Jacuzzi and took him along but he still didn't get off, and so I had to sit there the whole time with BabyN' holding me tightly.
Recently, we took him to another hotel with all the spa and swimming facilities, and luckily there was a paddling pool for kids too. Just before leaving, I had received a package from Baby Swimming Shop that had some very useful swimming gear for BabyN' - there was a Swim Ring (£8.00), Konfidence float jacket in navy (£24.50) and a Swim Fin (£21).
He was really excited to see all that stuff and we stated preparing him for it mentally. I filled air in the swim ring, and we both played with it in our living area it did require a lot of energy but I was able to do it successfully.
The other day at the hotel, I dressed him up in his swimming dress and handed him the swim ring. He was all ready to have a dip in the pool and I was really happy about that. We started off with the paddling pool, it wasn't very deep and didn't really require a swim ring but was helpful to give him confidence at the start and to help him learn how to swim. We taught him a bit and he quickly learnt which was great! I really liked the swim ring, and would highly recommend it for a newbie.
The next day, BabyN' himself asked me to take him to the pool. He doesn't speak properly at this stage but manages to speak some words and the word 'pool' was new for him and he had learnt there only. I took along his float jacket this time. Initially, he wasn't willing to wear it but I insisted and he stopped demanding it to be taken off. The idea of the jacket is to keep the child afloat but it is not advisable to leave the child unattended at any time. The jacket keeps the child afloat, not really vertically but horizontally. This means that the child needs to know how to move his legs and must know a bit of swimming. At this stage, BabyN' needs some more training but I'll be using these products soon again and give you guys an update on my Instagram. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a photo of him wearing the jacket because I was alone and husband was out for work.
We had bought the swimming shorts and arm band for him earlier. The arm bands have never been used until now, because I think they're for even bigger and trained kids so maybe we might use them on BabyN' later. They were actually on offer and was a bargain so we just bought the pair. Got his shorts from NEXT, they cost £8 but again, we bought them on offer so they were a little more than half-price.
I was browsing through the website of Baby Swimming Shop and they have some awesome stuff for kids. The Swim Fin for kids is also lovely to keep them entertained and perfect for role-play. Since it was BabyN's second time in the pool, we didn't use the Swim Fin yet as as still need to develop the concepts in his mind, but I'm definitely hoping to use it on our next holiday (which is soon, hopefully). The Swim Fin comes with two buckles and can be tied across the child but it's not supposed to be used along with the float jacket.
