Durham town centre Elvet bridge and Durham Cathedral

County Durham, the city where some parts of the movie Harry Potter were filmed is located in the North East of England and is known as a cathedral city because of the presence of the very ancient and historic Durham Cathedral. Besides the local residents, the county is also a temporary home to numerous students who are enrolled in the Durham University. The university is the third oldest university in England.

Oh yes, that's a cup cake for you! Enjoy the virtual cup cake while reading my post :)
The most popular place for the locals and students in the Durham town centre where most of the people can be seen roaming around. This is mainly because of the presence of various restaurants, high street stores, coffee shops and bars. Since I am living in the county, I often go to the town especially on Sundays. However, Sundays can be quite busy and you may get to see lots of people around.

Town centre, Durham - This is where all the activities take place, therefore, the crowd!

Every time I visit the town, visiting M&S is a must for me - I love the store!
Near the town centre, there is an amazingly beautiful place, perfect for spending time with children or your pet. This place is good for walking and cycling both. There are some benches where you can sit with your partner or friend and enjoy a chat, there is a small play area for the children and since because of the presence of a river, you can also enjoying boating

So, one day when we were heading towards the town, we decided to see the very famous Durham Cathedral. On my way, I found a nice shop that sells souvenirs and other funky stuff that I loved. Took a picture of a wall hanging (image below) that amused me to bits!

Your husband called and said its okay to buy anything. Wouldn't that just make your day? :D
The best way to go to the Durham Cathedral is to park your car anywhere near the town and go by walk. Below are some of the pictures of the cathedral we took from the outside since the visitors are not permitted to take any pictures inside the premises. On entering the cathedral, we were greeted by an extremely sweet and polite lady who guided us towards the areas we were allowed to view. I loved the interior and not to forget, visiting any religious place is just so soothing for me! The calm and peaceful atmosphere is  just amazing.

For those of you who are an avid Harry Potter fan, did you recognize the building? Yes, this is where a scene of the movie, "Harry Potter" was filmed.

Our next destination was the Durham Castle which is just at a walking distance from the cathedral. We did visit it but did not go inside because viewings were not allowed on that Sunday.
